I grew up in Brisbane. I spent eighteen years living in Japan between 1986 and 2005, with brief stints in Singapore and London. After working as a reporter with Kyodo News Service in Tokyo, I spent ten years in investment banking in Tokyo and a further decade as an analyst in the portfolio management sector. I left the financial services industry in 2008 and am currently pursuing a PhD in creative writing at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
My short stories, Icing and Salt and Ghost Town, and my short memoir Slow Burn were published in Griffith Review (Editions #25, #30 and #35). My debut novel, Bitter Passage, a work of historical fiction, will be published on 1 January, 2025.
